AAU basketball is important for the growth of a young player. When I was introduced to AAU basketball I didn't know what it was. After my first season of playing basketball because my height I started to enjoy it and began to gain interest. I joined the varsity basketball team in the 9th grade. After this season a close friend of mine introduced me to AAU basketball. I didn't know what to expect, especially having to travel about 1,40minutes away for practices and games. It seemed it was a big thing. Now I know it was very important.

Traveling the distance to be noticed by college recruits can be invaluable in many situations. Even if you aren't so good the experience is very rewarding. AAU fundraising as well was very fun for me. It personally taught me that I had to work for what I wanted. Luckily when I was younger friends from across the street started thinking big by selling candy to the children coming from school. Our homes was only 200 feet away so we attracted a big audience.

After selling candy to the children I figured I could use the same concept to pay for my AAU trips and fees. Our AAU coach suggested fundraising because it can become expensive traveling and paying for everything else you might need. So I took what I learned at a very very young age to sell candy at small and big basketball happenings. I was fortunate to have a candy factory around the street. If you don't have a place like this close well you are still lucky because back then the internet did not exist (1992). You can order candy online very easy and probably get free shipping.

There are so many things you can do with the internet as your guide.

Well this is my small guide to aau basketball. I suggest to anyone who is serious about a basketball career is to work hard for everything you want and set goals for yourself. Anything you want you can get. After playing my first year of AAU basketball and playing with the best players, LaKeshia Frett; Tajama Abraham and set a goal. I saw how they gained the attention to college scouts and having the chance to play basketball in college on a full scholarship. I made promise to my mother, she would never have to pay for college for me because I was going to get a full scholarship playing basketball.

You know what I kept my promise!!
